| HSBC Donates GBP30,000 To Hospis Malaysia.
20 January 2006 Every year during Christmas HSBC makes donations to six charities around the world where HSBC operates, instead of sending out Christmas cards to customers. This year HSBC will donate £30,000 each to the selected six charities. Group Chairman, Sir John Bond said, "We believe the money spent on Christmas cards is better used in the community. This fits with HSBC’s long tradition of supporting the communities in which we operate." Meanwhile, HSBC Malaysia has nominated Hospis Malaysia - which provides palliative care services to the community as one of the charities receiving the GBP30,000- (equivalent to MYR200,000-00).
Mr. Zarir J Cama, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Malaysia presented the cheque to Dato' Francis Huang, Chairman of Hospis Malaysia at a simple presentation ceremony held at the Bank's premises on 20 January 2006 which ended with a presentation by Dr. Ednin Hamzah, Medical Director Hospis Malaysia on the palliative care provided by Hospis Malaysia. HSBC Malaysia has been supporting Hospis Malaysia in their charity hunts for 2 consecutive years now and Hospis is also one of the charities selected for HSBC Employee Corporate Volunteer Leave Programme whereby HSBC staff take a day off to assist Hospis Malaysia in their day-care centre. Hospis Malaysia was also invited to participate in the recently held HSBC Charity Mela (bazaar) 2005 - a fund raising event for the charities supported by HSBC. |
