HSBC Continues Effors and Commitment of Education Under HSBC-RAW Project 2006

HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad in its continued efforts and contribution to the advancement of education sponsored the Reading And Writing (RAW) Project.

On 15 May 2006, Mr Cama Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer presented a cheque for RM60,000 to Dr R.Thillainathan , Chairman to the Board of Trustees (CHILD) being the Banks' sponsorship for 16 schools in the states of Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak and the Klang Valley.

"Education is crucial to the development and prosperity of every country. It is the engine of economic development and a route to personal achievement and success. HSBC's partnership with CHILD is part of the Bank's focus on Corporate Social Responsibility especially in the area of education ," said Mr Zarir J Cama.

The RAW project is administered by the Child Information, Learning and Development Centre (CHILD). CHILD, established by a group of professors to help underprivileged children, conceptualized the RAW project to improve communication skills in English among Malaysian children, particularly in rural schools and to promote and develop a reading culture among Malaysian school children.
